give them wings

We made masks during art and had a little afternoon photo shoot. October accomplishments: 1) They almost finished a four page research paper. 2) Finished reading their fourth classic literature book. 3) Started advance algebra. 4) We created/painted all the games for a big fall festival. 5) They started training for a 5k race (more details later). It's been a good October at the Sunshine School

date with charlie

Happy Saturday afternoon. We spent most of today at a big fall festival at our church. Charlie's parents took our kids home with them afterwards. So precious of them.  Now we are going to a restaurant and ordering grown up food. Hooray for date night!
Raise your hand if you think Charlie is the cutest husband in the whole wide world! Good. Me too.

library fun day

Hi! So proud of my students for working hard on their first ever 4 page research papers! I gave them several topics to chose from. Two of them are writing about organic food. The other two are writing about a chemical that happens in the brain when you like/love someone. They are finding lots of very interesting information. We spent yesterday morning at our local library. They have never been to our local library.
When arrived at the library, all four of them looked intimidated and overwhelmed. Two hours later they were all in line getting information about library cards and asking when we would be coming back. Just adorable. Hope you are having a nice Wednesday!

whoever puts their toys away gets an eye patch

The kids needed a little motivation to put away the scattered babies, dinosaurs, puzzle pieces and books that were starting to take over the floor. I set the timer for fifteen minutes, gave them the promise of handmade eye patches, ran to the sewing closet and got busy. I finished all three before the timer was finished. EASY project... and it cost zero dollars.
P.S. Millie g.'s eye patch has a ruffle. How are you spending Wednesday afternoon?

i know one thing

We have two friends, Carrie D. and Clint. Let's see, how can I put this... WE MISS THEM! We left them in Baton Rouge along with a few of our favorite restaurants, parks and fabric stores. They are quite possibly the coolest college students that live on God's green earth. They travelled our way this weekend to attend the LSU vs. Florida game, so of course we packed up the kids and hauled it down to Jacksonville to see their adorable faces.
Carrie D. and Clint, we miss you! We are proud of the great people you are becoming. Happy middle of October!

hello october

Dear September, please go quietly and take your hot weather with you. Love, Me. I really like October. Fall is my favorite time of year. When the air gets all chilly and everything gets all pumpkiny.... it just makes me happy.
Little Dean is obsessed with soccer. We've known this for a while. He began his third year of soccer this week. The girls and I scream for him every time it even looks like he's about to kick the ball. October means chilly soccer games and pumpkin spice lattes (with soy milk and an extra shot of espresso please!). why do you love October?
